I started Haruki Murakami’s new book this afternoon.

I really love his writing, even though he rarely produces satisfying endings.

Earlier, I started reading Coin Locker Babies by Ryu (not Haruki) Murakami. I thought the premise was good—two childhood friends who were abandoned in coin lockers as babies set out to find and destroy the mothers who rejected them—but it was a little too gritty and strange for me, and I had to stop reading, haha. Haruki’s work can be gritty and strange, too, but in a more whimsical, dreamlike way (if that makes sense at all). Ryu’s writing (there’s no relation between them, btw), while interesting, has a tendency to make me shudder. It’s all just a little too intense, I guess. I’ll probably try to finish the book, anyway, though, just to see how things turn out.

Edit: Finished it, haha. It was a quick, enjoyable read.

The ending wasn’t bad, either!
